As you might’ve heard before, Croatia is known for its beautiful coastline, and Dubrovnik definitely plays a part in that! It’s no surprise that about 50% of all tourist attractions include being in the water. Boat tours can be really fun! But if you’re like us and you LOVE outdoorsy stuff then sea kayaking in Dubrovnik is a must! It’s such a fun way to spend the afternoon while being active, and you get to see some beautiful sights which you can’t see from the Old Town.

Over the past couple of years, tourism has seen a significant rise in Dubrovnik due to Game of Thrones and the beauty of the city. This is great for the city but there are now so many companies to choose from to go sea kayaking in Dubrovnik. It makes it it’s hard to decide which company to go with and what tour to choose. With over 20 search results on TripAdvisor, you might be left with the question…”Which company is the best for sea kayaking in Croatia?”
Let us help answer that question! Especially since there are so many fun activities to do in Croatia on your holidays you want to make sure you pick the right ones!

Which company is the best for sea kayaking in Dubrovnik, Croatia?
If you’re looking for an adventure and want to see some beautiful Croatian coastline from out at sea then Adventure Dubrovnik’s sea kayaking tour is an absolute must.
We went on the Snorkeling, Sunset, and Wine tour, and had such a good time!
The staff was so friendly and were willing to help any way they could. Our Adventure Dubrovnik guides, Teo and Dom, taught us about the Croatian history, kayaking in Croatia, shared fun facts about Dubrovnik, and gave some local tips so we could get a bit off the beaten path in a city full of tourists.
The kayaking tour was well organized and the whole trip just felt like smooth sailing 😉 even though the sea wasn’t smooth that day!

It started raining during our kayaking trip and we all got super soaked but it made for a fun experience! As soon as we kayaked past Lokrum it started to absolutely poor but it was so much fun, we didn’t even feel the rain. We never felt unsafe thanks to the professional tour guides. They were very cautious with the weather conditions and made sure we were comfortable in continuing kayaking in the sea due to the storm.
If you’re looking for an adventurous Croatian holiday then make sure you go kayaking somewhere in Croatia. With the country having a very long coast there are many sea kayaking spots to be found in Croatia and kayaking to Lokrum did not disappoint.
Where does the trip start
The meeting point is at the tourist information centre outside the Pile Gate. You’ll be greeted by an Adventure Dubrovnik guide who will then take you down to Pile Harbour right beneath the Pile Gate. You will instantly feel like you’re going on a tour around Kings Landing (GoT reference), and we promise you that you’re gonna love all 3 hours of the tour!

What does the trip include
1. See the city walls from the outside
Once you’ve gone over all the necessary training you’ll start to kayak out of the harbor and along the coastline that surrounds the city walls. It has to be one of the best parts of the tour because you’ll see the city from an angle that just isn’t possible while walking on the wall or strolling through the city.
2. Beautiful beaches
From there you’ll kayak to Cave Beach, the only beach in Dubrovnik that isn’t accessible by foot. Also hands down the best beach in Dubrovnik (Our opinion, and our guides who live there).
Cave Beach truly looks like the entrance to the hidden passage up to the Red Keep (sorry, another GOT reference). It’s a beautiful little beach in a cave where you can walk around while you have a bite to eat.
Another great thing about the tour is that they bring snorkeling gear. This makes it possible to have a little swim while people bask in the sun and relax for a half hour.

3. Lokrum Island
After the little beach trip, you’ll set on the long haul journey around the cursed island of Lokrum. It seems like quite the journey but you’ll have breaks and Teo will stop the group to share stories about hotels that haven’t yet been rebuilt after the war, about the war between the Serb and Montenegrin army, and some fun facts about Lokrum Island and anything else that you may want to know. So think of some questions now you want to stump them with as they are very knowledgeable about their country’s past and everything that’s happened in the area.
This is also one of the only tours that kayaks to Lokrum which is cool. Otherwise you can only get to Lokrum by ferry and it’s not very cheap.
If you want to go back and spend some time visiting the dead sea in Lokrum Island you can take the Lokrum ferry to the island. The ferry to Lokrum takes about 15 minutes and cost $20 to get there. Also I found a map for Lokrum that can be very useful to give you an idea of how many things can be done on the island. Also also ask Teo, Dom, or any of the other guides if they recommend some great activities to do on the island.
4. A beautiful sunset
If you’re lucky enough and the weather is on your side you will have a beautiful sunset to admire on your paddle back to the Pile Harbour. Don’t rush the paddle home, take out your camera and take in the beauty of the Wall and Fort Lovrijenac. It truly is something special and I am so happy we decided on the sunset tour.

We hope you’re going to enjoy your afternoon sea kayaking in Dubrovnik just as much as we did. Hopefully, you’ll have some better weather than we did – but if not, don’t feel discouraged. You’ll be wet in the kayak anyways so you might as well embrace it. It was honestly really fun and the sunset and wine at the end will make you forget about the rain in no time! So just enjoy one of the best kayak holidays in Croatia.
And if you enjoy the sunset kayaking tour then you can also hike up to Mt Srd right outside Dubrovnik for an extra special view of the city and the sea.

Dubrovnik is such a magical city with so many things to see and do. We were there for a week and saw as much as we could but we could have definitely stayed longer and seen more. The kayaking to Lokrum and Cave Beach were a few of our highlights. Along with hiking in Dubrovnik and climbing the castle walls. We hope you get a chance to go kayaking and exploring around the Old Town!
Have fun!
