Croatia is known for its beautiful coastline, and the coastal city of Dubrovnik is one of the highlights. It’s no surprise that about 50% of all tourist attractions include being in the water. So sea kayaking in Dubrovnik instantly excited us because it’s a fun way to explore while doing something active. Plus you’ll see some beautiful sights which you can’t see from the Old Town.

Over the past couple of years, tourism has seen a significant rise in Dubrovnik due to Game of Thrones and the beauty of the city.

It’s been great for the city but there are now so many companies to choose from for all the different activities and sea kayaking in Dubrovnik is one of them. We did a bit of research and found what we think to be the best company in Dubrovnik to go sea kayaking with.

Which company is the best for sea kayaking in Dubrovnik

If you’re looking for an adventure and want to see some beautiful Croatian coastline from out at sea then Adventure Dubrovnik’s sea kayaking tour is an absolute must.

We went on the Snorkeling, Sunset, and Wine tour, and had such a good time!

The staff was so friendly and were willing to help any way they could. Our Adventure Dubrovnik guides, Teo and Dom, taught us about Croatian history, kayaking in Croatia, shared fun facts about and a bunch of fun things to do in Dubrovnik. They also shared some local tips so we could get a bit off the beaten path in a city full of tourists.

The kayaking tour was well organized and the whole trip just felt like smooth sailing 😉 even though the sea wasn’t the smoothest on the given day.

It started raining during our kayaking trip and we all got super soaked but it made for a fun experience! As soon as we kayaked past Lokrum it started to absolutely downpour but it was so much fun, we didn’t even feel the rain. We never felt unsafe thanks to Dom and Teo.

They were very cautious with the weather conditions and made sure we were comfortable in continuing kayaking in the sea due to the storm.

Meeting point before the sea kayaking adventure

The meeting point is at the tourist information centre outside the Pile Gate. You’ll be greeted by an Adventure Dubrovnik guide who will then take you down to Pile Harbour right beneath the Pile Gate.

You will instantly feel like you’re going on a tour around Kings Landing (GoT reference), and we promise you that you’re gonna love all 3 hours of the tour!

Beautiful coastline in Dubrovnik.

What does the trip include

1. See the city walls from the outside

Once you’ve gone over all the necessary training you’ll start to kayak out of the harbor and along the coastline that surrounds the city walls of Dubrovnik. It has to be one of the best parts of the tour because you’ll see the city from an angle that just isn’t possible while walking on the wall or strolling through the city.

2. Beautiful beaches

From there you’ll kayak to Cave Beach, the only beach in Dubrovnik that isn’t accessible by foot. Also hands down the best beach in Dubrovnik (Our opinion, and our guides who live there).

Cave Beach truly looks like the entrance to the hidden passage up to the Red Keep (sorry, another GOT reference). It’s a beautiful little beach in a cave where you can walk around while you have a bite to eat.

Another great thing about the tour is that they bring snorkelling gear. This makes it possible to have a little swim while people bask in the sun and relax for a half hour.

3. Lokrum Island

After the little beach trip, you’ll set on the long haul journey around the cursed island of Lokrum. It seems like quite the journey but you’ll have breaks and Teo will stop the group to share stories. You can ask about the hotels that haven’t yet been rebuilt from the war that happened in the 1990s.

This is also one of the only tours that kayaks to Lokrum which is cool. Otherwise, you can only get to Lokrum by ferry and it’s not very cheap.

If you want to go back and spend some time visiting the dead sea in Lokrum Island you can take the Lokrum ferry to the island. The ferry to Lokrum takes about 15 minutes and cost $20 to get there.

Also I found a map for Lokrum that can be very useful to give you an idea of how many things can be done on the island. Also, also ask Teo, Dom, or any of the other guides if they recommend some great activities to do on the island.

4. A beautiful sunset

If you’re lucky enough and the weather is on your side you will have a beautiful sunset to admire on your paddle back to the Pile Harbour. Don’t rush the paddle home, take out your camera and take in the beauty of the Wall and Fort Lovrijenac. It truly is something special and I am so happy we decided on the sunset tour.

It’s not on this tour but if you’re looking for one of the best sunset spots in Dubrovnik then hike up to Mount Srd. It’s a short hike from Old Town Dubrovnik and you’ll have one of the best spots to watch sunset in Dubrovnik. You’ll even be able to see the route you took during your Kayak tour!
