After +5 years as digital nomads, this is one of the most expensive countries we’ve lived in 👇🏼

(This is part 2 in the series, so make sure you check part 1 out as well).

Aotearoa New Zealand! 🇳🇿

While this is one of our favourites countries, it’s also one of the most expensive countries we’ve lived in as nomads 🥲

We originally wanted to rent a van, but we got quoted $7000 NZD + insurance (and fuel) for THREE WEEKS so instead we decided to find a car and rent airbnbs, hostels, and hop around a bit so we could explore some more places and stay a bit longer in each location (the longest we stayed in one airbnb was 11 nights).

We also stayed in a hostel in Queenstown for a few nights to “save some money”. That was $76 NZD per person per night for a 4-bed dorm 🛏️

We didn’t meet many remote workers & digital nomads while we were there but there were a ton of fellow content creators which was super fun 🥰

All in all, we would totally go back to NZ as digital nomads but it’s also an amazing place to go just for a holiday to make the most of your time there given the fact that you do spend a lot of money to be there! 👩🏼‍💻✈️

I was recently asked “Why Madeira? What’s so special about it?”🤷🏼‍♀️

This question came from someone who’s never been to Madeira.

It was hard for me to come up with an answer because I feel like Madeira isn’t a place that can be explained - it’s a place that has to be experienced 🫶🏼

It doesn’t take a genius to see the incredible nature you get here. The weather is amazing (especially compared to Northern Europe in winter/spring).

And then there are the people.

This morning, as we had a cup of coffee at a local bakery, two homeless people came in. In many countries, these homeless people would’ve been kicked out - but not here.

Instead, the worker went into the back room and grabbed four bread rolls for them. As the two people ordered coffee, they found whatever little cash they had on them.

The other worked at the bakery made them two coffees and then refused to take any payment for them.

That’s Madeira for you 🥹💙

When looking for a nomad apartment, we have certain criteria that need to be filled:

🛜 Fast wifi
🛌 A solid bed
👩🏼‍💻 A desk or designated work station
🥗 A kitchen where we can cook
👗 Dresser or closet where we can unpack our suitcases
☀️ Lots of good natural light

There are many platforms and websites you can rent from, but we like to use @flatio_com as it’s a platform specifically set up for mid-term rentals (and it’s way more nomad-friendly and cheaper than other similar platforms).

So far we’ve used Flatio both in the Czech Republic and Portugal but they have apartments all over the world including Bulgaria, Albania, Greece, and other nomad-friendly locations!

In case you didn’t know, Prague holds a very special place in our hearts.

It’s a place that we’ve called home for three years and it’s the longest time we’ve lived together since we met over 8 years ago.

5 years ago, we took a leap of faith and started a

5 years ago, we took a leap of faith and started a travel blog! 👩🏼‍💻🧑🏽‍💻

It took years to build it up but eventually we got to a point where we could do it full time 🥰

Since then, we’ve visited almost 20 countries (many of which we’ve spent extended periods of time in) and better yet, we’ve created a life that we love waking up to every morning 🫶🏼

To us, this is the most important part of it. That, and being together.

I always tell people that it doesn’t matter what you do, as long as it makes you happy!
